“Everything has beauty, but not everyone sees it.” ~ Confucius
Let’s imagine that together you and I worked on creating some intentions for all areas of your life. In our process together, I would have you start with what it is that you deeply desire but rather than focus on the specifics around the desire, I would rather have you focus on the ESSENCE of your desire.
My favorite definition of the word essence is: the characteristic or intrinsic feature of a thing, which determines its identity; fundamental nature.
If you think about that – the fundamental nature – the identity – of something…you really get down to the CORE and the Truth of whatever it is that you desire.
And what’s so cool about setting intentions via the coaching process is: when we delve into, and extract out the very essence of what you’re desiring in ALL areas of your life, you then begin to realize what’s already there within your life experience currently.
This coincides so beautifully with the holiday that we’re upon – Thanksgiving – taking note of what we already have to be grateful for allows the gratitude to expand even broader when you focus and shed light on it.
When you really think about it – the deepest desire of everyone is to continue to evolve and grow into your greatest potential – to experience all that life has to offer and to align with your natural state of being which is: love, peace, wisdom and joy. The outer manifestations are simply just symbols of this to act as signposts and reminders of what we’re feeling within.

To Your Worth!
To help give this exercise more context, take one area of your life that you’d like to see improve, shift, and change in some way. Then, take out a pad of paper or your journal and jot down all the ways in which you’d like to see this area shift in a different direction. Be specific about what the different direction is, what it “looks” like, feels like, etc. Really give the sensory details around how you yearn for that area to feel and look.
After you’ve delved into the specifics of what you’d like to see change, then go deeper to capture the essence, the core of that particular desire. What is it about the shift and changes in this area that will effect you in a more positive way? Rather than focus on the what, give your focus to the WHY. Why do you want to experiences changes in this area – and how will they have a more positive effect in your life?
Now that you have your list of shifts and know your WHY, it’s time to write out your intentions. A great way to do this is to utilize wording like: I am open to, I am ready for, etc. Write out what you’re really wanting to see happen in this particular area…again focusing on the essence of the area, not the specifics. For example, if you chose your work you could say something like: I am now ready to experience more creative authenticity when it comes to my work where I’m able to produce content that creates meaningful results in other peopl’e s lives vs. I’m ready to write a column in a magazine. Let the Universe handle the details…not your job ;)
Then, go through your list of intentions and focus on five that you’d like to start with. Choose these based on them being small steps vs. huge leaps. Then, focus on how you can bring these into your experience today as oppossed to feeling like the experience is somewhere out in the future. If you desire to do more authentic, creative work, what can you produce each day that will do that? If you want to experience more beauty in your life, what can you document and capture right now that will show you all the beauty that exists already. If you desire more money, be grateful, honor, and take note of the money that you already have now.
What we focus on expands. Focus on what you already have and what’s going right and is good and MORE of that will continue to expand in your experience. Give it a try and let us know how it manifests for you!
